Yertle After the Fall

This song is based on the Dr. Seuss story YERTLE THE TURTLE. With Dr. Seuss' coming up on March 3, I am putting together several songs from his books for some performances.

After Yertle the Turtle King fell from the sky

I must admit I figured it was certain he would die

But old Yertle he survived the fall, it seemed his shell was strong

What happened next to Yertle is the story of this song

He had mud piled on his head

A frown upon his face

The tumble to the pond had surely put him in his place

He sulked non-stop a week or two or maybe even four

Then it is true that Yertle sulked another three weeks more

He was as grumpy as a turtle/turtle king could be

He was a grouchy as an Oscar in a can times three

After all his pouting, Yertle turned and looked around

He found no one was listening to his moaning, groaning sound

He slowly wiped away the mud that covered up his eyes

And with his brand new vision couldn’t help but realize

The world kept up its spinning even while he sat and frowned…

The turtles swam up and the turtles swam down.

Refrain

Then Yertle picked himself up with a sheepish turtle grin

He slid into the water and he began to swim

He swam to the left and he swam to the right

And just like a turtle should, he swam all through the night

And even to this day in that far away pond

He and his friends go swimming in Sala-ma-sond

Refrain
